President to launch "Sanhindiyawe Sathwirugama" housing project

Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi chaired a media briefing on the "Sanhindiyawe Sathwirugama" housing project at the Ministry premises today (23rd Wednesday, March 2016).

During the occasion Secretary Hettiarachchi enlightened the media on the visionary housing project and the envisioned outcome of the same.

The "Sanhindiyawe Sathwirugama" is an ongoing housing project situated at the Kockeliya in Vavuniya which nearing completion, covering an area of 80 land parts of 40 perches. Houses are being constructed under the directions of the Ministry of Defence along with the labour assistance provided by the tri-forces. This visionary measure is aimed at enhancing the national coexistence and the reconciliation process.

Accordingly, 51 houses will be vested on Tamil women soldiers, military soldiers married to Tamil women and a soldier who owns seven children during the event.

The project has been funded by the "Api wenuwen api" housing fund and the state fund. Accordingly, a cost of a new house would be (approx) 2 million rupees.

The "Sanhindiyawe Sathwirugama" project also includes a Playground, Children Park and a Community Hall which would be completed by the Navy, Air Force and Army respectively.

President Maithripala Sirisena will officially hand over the newly built houses on 3rd April amidst the Sinhala-Hindu New Year traditions and customs.

Ministry Officials and senior tri-forces officers and large gathering of media personnel were present at the briefing.
