President unveils statue of Weera Keppetipola

President Maithripala Sirisena unveiled a statue of Weera Keppetipola near the Matale Public Library to mark the Weera Keppetipola's 197th birth anniversary.

The ceremony was organized by the Matale Keppetipola Foundation.

The statue was built to commemorate this prominent leader of the 1818 Uva- Wellassa Uprising against the British colonial government.

Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara, State Minister Wasantha Aluwihare, Deputy Minister Lakshman Wasantha Perera, Governor of the Central Province - Surangani Ellawala, Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka, Mayor Hilmi Mohamad, Y.K. Sinha- the High Commissioner of India and others participated at this event.
