'Report of the three-member committee appointed to investigate
regarding terrorist attacks will be opened for all' - President
[April 30 2019]
President Maithripala Sirisena says that after
receiving the report of the three-member committee appointed to
investigate the causes and background for the terrorist attacks, the
content of that report will be opened for all the parties.
The committee is headed by a retired Supreme Court
Judge and the report of the committee is scheduled to submit within two
weeks. The President said that after receiving that report it will be
present to the Parliament and the future security measures will be taken
President Sirisena made these remarks during a meeting
held with the senior security officers, including the newly appointed
Secretary of Defence General Shantha Kottegoda at the Ministry of
Defence, today (30).
The progress was reviewed on the missions conducted to
take the terrorists in to custody and the President emphasized that this
barbaric terrorism should be eradicated completely and the national
security should be immediately ensured.
The President pointed out that after facing this
terrorist attack, actions were taken against terrorism in a speedier
manner than such operations in any other country in the world and
thanked the Intelligence agencies and the security forces for the
success of the operations.
The issues discussed included ensuring the security of
the schools by carrying out a proper security program as well as
conducting the daily duties of the government offices in a normal
manner. The President stressed that normal activities in the country
should not face setbacks.
The new Secretary of Defense, General Kottegoda said
that President Sirisena will give his maximum energy to eradicate
terrorism and to establish a stable country with assured national
Defence State Minister Mr. Ruwan Wijewardana,
Secretary to the President Mr. Udaya R. Senevirathne, Advisory to the
Defence Ministry - Former IPG Mr. N.K. Ilangakoon and senior officials
of Defence Ministry were also participated in this occasion.
