Russian sail training ship arrives in Colombo

Making a goodwill visit, 'Nadezhda', a Russian sail training frigate arrived to the country today (14th June). The ship will remain in the island for three days.

According to Navy media, Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka HE Alexander Karchava is scheduled to declare open a photography exhibition organized by the ship's crew onboard the ship. School children will have the opportunity to visit the photography exhibition from tomorrow till Saturday (15th-17th June).

The three-masted ship, 'Nadezhda' is named after the legendary frigate that Russian seafarers led by Ivan Kruzenshtern and Yury Lisyansky used to make a circumnavigation for the first time in the history of Russian fleet, two centuries ago.

During their three day stay in the island the ships' crew is also scheduled to take part in several programmes organized by the Sri Lanka Navy.
