Secretary Defence Declares open the Future Minds 2012 Exhibition at
BMICH
"Future Minds 2012" a National Educational and Career
Exhibition which is being held for the 7th consecutive year was declared
open by the Secretary of Defence and Urban Development Mr Gotabaya
Rajapakse, the Chief Guest of the occasion at the BMICH, Colombo today
(22nd June).
The purpose of this exhibition is to educate the Sri
Lankan student population of how to choose a desired career path and
also presents a single platform where all local and foreign higher
education providers gather and meet students who are keen in pursuing
higher education in affiliated foreign universities both local and
international.
This event is also an ideal opportunity for the
parents to visit and get to know how their children could face the
future by making the correct decision concerning their child's higher
education.
More than 175 educational service providers
representing diverse fields of education were present at the exhibition
from various countries mainly from New Zealand, Canada, Australia,
United Kingdom, USA and India.
The exhibition is also planned to be held in Kandy and
Galle enabling the opportunity for the students from outstations to
visit the exhibition without any hassle and avail themselves the premier
opportunities available in the metropolitan capital.
At the inauguration, Secretary Defence distributed
certificates and gifts to the winners of the Sinhala & English Essay
competition and Painting completion which was held for school children.
Secretary Defence addressing the gathering said that
failure to enter into local university should not be considered as a
barrier since now there are so many other opportunities available for
students to pursue higher education. The Secretary also added that the
young people must position themselves to take up future targets in order
to take the country forward.
A donation was presented to the Secretary Defence for
the Ranaviru School by Debug Computers Ltd. Fifteen Scholarships meant
for children of Ranaviru Families were also handed over to the Secretary
Defence by various educational institutions.
The Ambassador to the USA Jaliya Wickramasooriya
attended the function as the Guest of Honour. Hon. Deputy Speaker
Chandima Weerakkody, Hon MP Thilanga Sumathipala, Vice Chancellor of KDU
Maj Gen Milinda Pieris, Principal of Nalanda College Ranjith Jayasundara,
former principles, distinguished guests, representatives of the Nalanda
Junior OBA and a large number of students participated in the event.
The exhibition will be open to the public for three
days from 22nd to 24th June 2012.
