Secretary graces opening of water purification plant in Vavuniya

A new Reverse Osmosis Plant (RO Plant) constructed by the Sri Lanka Navy was declared open for public use at a ceremony held in Irattai Periyakulam in Vavuniya today (10th Thursday, March 2016).

The RO plant was unveiled by the Minister of Agriculture Hon. Duminda Dissanayake at the invitation of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi.

Approximately 1500 families of the adjacent villages will have the opportunity to access to clean and safe drinking water through the new facility which will fulfill a long felt need of this region where access to pure drinking water is limited.

Sri Lanka Navy taking its social responsibility initiatives forward has contributed in numerous ways towards uplifting the living standards of the people in underprivileged areas. Already a number of such water purification facilities have been constructed by the Navy in the region where renal disease is also widespread.

Tri forces commanders, senior navy officers, senior state officials and large numbers of people were present at the occasion.
