'Senehe Siyapatha' village opens

'Senehe Siyapatha' village, a housing project for Aranayake land slide victims was opened by the Minister of Disaster Management Hon. Anura Priyadharshana Yapa at a ceremony held in Aranayake on Sunday (14th May 2017).

State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene and Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi were also present at the occasion.

'Senehe Siyapatha' project inaugurated with the view of assisting flood victims that occurred during last year. As the 3rd stage of the project, construction of 30 new houses for Aranayake land slide victims were initiated after laying foundation stone on 29th October 2016.The Aranayake landslide disaster occurred on 17th May (2016) claiming a number of lives and destroying many houses.

'Senehe Siyapatha' village houses were built under the aegis of the Disaster Management Center, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media, Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Lake House and Sri Lanka Rupavahini Cooperation. The tri forces provided labor support and machinery for the housing project.

During the event, keys to three new houses were symbolically handed over to land slide victims under the presence of State Minister Wijewardene, Secretary Hettiarachchi and other distinguished guests.

Ministers, distinguished guests including members of supportive institutes, state officials, tri forces officers and other ranks, beneficiaries and large number of locals were present at the occasion.
