State Minister attends 'Aloka Pooja' at the Thanthirimale temple
State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene
attended the 14th annual 'Aloka Pooja' held at the Thanthirimale temple
in Anuradhapura yesterday (8th Thursday, June 2017).
Thanthirimale Aloka Pooja is an annual religious event
organized to illuminate the historic Thanthirimale sacred areas in view
of the Poson Poya day.
Speaking at the event, State Minister highlighted the
importance of Mahindagamanaya, the arrival of Arahat Mahinda Thera in
Sri Lanka with the noblest gift of Buddhism. Buddhist culture has
immensely assisted to develop arts, agriculture and education in the
country. Protecting Buddhism is one of the main focuses of the
government while moving towards development, he said.
Further he highlighted the importance of spiritual
development of a country, while concentrating on physical Development
and Infrastructure. State Minister also commended the service rendered
by Buddhist monks, who assisted to protect the temple during the war
period. Blessings of this year's 'Aloka Pooja' to offer on recent flood
victims, he added.
A statue of Sanghamitta thero was also declared open
for the devotees during the event. The religious event was organized by
the Wijeya Newspapers Limited and the Lankadeepa Newspaper.
Chief Incumbent of the Thanthirimale Raja Maha Vihara
Thanthirimale Chandarathana Thera, Venerable Maha Sanga, Ministers,
Chairman of Wijeya Newspapers Ltd and large number of devotees were also
present at the occasion.
