State Minister Wijewardene graces opening of Mihintale 'Aloka Pooja'
State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene was
the chief guest of the third day opening of the 55th 'Aloka Pooja'
ceremony of the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya last evening (10th June).
The Mihintale Aloka Pooja is being sponsored by the Express Newspapers
Company (Lake House) to illuminate the historic Mihintale temple in view
of the Poson Poya day.
The lighting of the temple was carried out with the
expertise of the Sri Lanka Air Force and while the Electricity Board and
Express Newspaper Company had provided sponsorship support.
Religious observances were presided over by the Chief
Incumbant of the Minhintale temple Ven. Walahahengunawewe Dammarathana
Thero. During the ceremony certificates of appreciation were presented
to the Air Force personnel of Anuradhapura Air Force Station involved in
the development work of the temple. The certificates were presented to
the Commanding Officer of the Anuradhapura Air Force Station by the

reminded of the people affected by the recent flooding calamity and the
relief effort carried out by the tri forces. Speaking on the importance
of celebrating the Poson Poya Day day the Buddhist community he said
that in the future more state involvement and his personal attention
would be forthcoming in this regard.
Members of the Maha Sangha, parliamentarians,state
officials, Lake House representatives, Air Force personnel and a large
number of devotees were present at the occasion.
