Statue of Gen.Anuruddha Ratwatte unveiled in Kandy
unveiled a statue of the late General Anuruddha Ratwatte in the
Kandy city centre
statue of General Anuruddha Ratwatte who served the country as a
politician and an army officer was inaugurated by President Mahinda
Rajapaksa Saturday morning.
Anuruddha Ratwatte born on 14th July 1938 received
his education at Trinity College, Kandy. In 1960 he entered active
politics as the main organizer of Senkadagala. He entered Parliament
in 1989. He was appointed as Minister of Power and Energy and Deputy
Minister of Defence in 1994.
Anyryddha Ratwatte rendered much service to the
country as a Lieutenant Colonel of the Army Voluntary Force. The
Jaffna peninsula was released from the LTTE terrorists through the
Riviresa operation under his guidance when he was the Deputy Defence
Minister. He was promoted to the rank of General in 1995. He served
the motherland in several fields and bid farewell to the nation in
President Rajapaksa also inaugurated the new
sports complex at the Bogambara stadium in Kandy.
The sports complex with modern exercise equipment
is built at a cost of 35 million rupees. The Sports Ministry has
constructed the center according to the Mahinda Chintana vision
under the theme 'a healthy life through sports'.
