Thousands of saplings planted by Army under the 'Ranaviru Haritha Arana' project

Sri Lanka Army troops conducted yet another tree planting programme in keeping with the 'Wanaropa' tree planting campaign, on Saturday (27 October). According to Army media, thousands of Army personnel in all seven Security Force Headquarters planted more than 6000 plants in their respective areas under the final segment of the 'Ranaviru Haritha Arana' project, spearheaded by the Presidential Secretariat.

The main event was held at the Army's Manik Farm in Vavuniya where 150 fruit plants such as Naminam, Lavulu, Gaduguda, Sapadilla, Weera, Mora, Kon, Mee, Dang, etc were planted.

The Army had conducted a series of tree planting programme over the years in keeping with national environmental protection initiatives. These programmes are carried out encompassing all areas of the country. This multi-faceted project will not only encourage tree planting among the tri forces personnel and members of the general public but also aims at providing a source of income to rural communities.
