Troops continue flood relief work

[December 27 2018]

Continuing their relief efforts soon after the floods that hit several areas in the country, especially in the Northern areas, Sri Lanka Army troops have rescued a number of people stranded due to the rains in Puiyamunei area in the Mullaitivu region. According to Army media, troops managed to rescue five victims on Saturday (22 December).

Meanwhile, troops have also taken measures to protect tanks which pose a threat of breaching due to increasing water levels. Accordingly, troops secured the Maradamadukulam dam with sand bags after a vulnerable location was identified. The location was secured with more than 1000 bags of sand along a 40 feet distance.

Heavy rain and accompanied winds had also caused many trees falling on roads disrupting vehicular movement. Troops removed a number of trees along the Puthukkudiyiruppu Mullivaikkal road and the Katuwapitiya Sebastian road. Troops also removed several trees fallen on the Agarukamulla Buddhist temple premises.
