War Hero children presented with educational scholarships

A group of children of War Hero families was presented with educational scholarships during a ceremony held today (03rd Tuesday, March). The State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the 'Kuwait- Sri Lanka Ravaviru Doo Daru Scholarship Awarding Ceremony -2018' held at the auditorium of the Navy Headquarters in Colombo this morning.

The State Minister was received by the Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Mrs. Anoma Fonseka upon his arrival at the venue.

The ceremony was organized by the Ranaviru Seva Authority in collaboration with the Kuwait- Sri Lanka Forum. Financial support to the tune of Rs. 720,000.00 towards the scholarship fund has been provided by the Kuwait- Sri Lanka Forum which is operated by the Sri Lankan community working in Kuwait. A group of 60 children from War Hero families was provided with educational scholarship each worth Rs. 12,000.00. This will be deposited in their bank accounts in monthly installments. During the ceremony each child was presented with Rs. 2,000.00 being the payment for the first two months. A valuable laptop computer was also presented to a deserving child.

The ceremony also saw the winning team of the All Island Sitting Volleyball Championship -2017, conducted by the All Island Para Volleyball Federation being presented with the championship trophy by the State Minister.

The Kuwait- Sri Lanka Forum, together with the Ranaviru Seva Authority has been presenting this scholarship from 2008 as a show of gratitude to the selfless and heroic service of the War Heroes towards ushering in an era of peace to the country. So far 477 War Hero children have benefited from this project.

Senior Army and Navy officers, RSA officials and representatives of the Kuwait- Sri Lanka Forum were also present at the occasion.
