CSD will be utilised for country’s development

The strength of the Civil Security Department (CSD) will be utilised for the country’s development and to boost agriculture sector, said Maj. Gen. Nandana Senadeera (Retd) today (Jan 21).

Meanwhile, CSD’s Nandimithra Unit will be trained further and will be kept as an additional force to support the military, he also said.   

Maj. Gen. Senadeera (Retd) expressed these remarks after assuming office as the new Director General of the Civil Security Department today (21), in Colombo.

Religious observances were also performed during the session in keeping with traditions.

Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) accompanied by Chairperson of Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit Chithrani Gunaratne also graced the occasion.

Hon. Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekara (Retd) handed over the letter of appointment to Maj. Gen. Senadeera at the Public Security Ministry on Jan 13.

Deputy Director CSD Rear Admiral Udeni Serasinghe (Retd) received the new Director General and also accorded a guard of honour, a ceremonial mark of respect, on his arrival at the office.

Venerable Maha Sanga, Public Security Ministry Secretary Maj. Gen. Jagath Alwis (Retd), Agriculture Ministry Secretary Maj. Gen. Sumedha Perera (Retd), Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Inspector General of Police Chandana Wickramaratne, Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Gen. Daya Rathnayaka (Retd), Director General of the Disaster Management Centre Maj. Gen. Sudantha Ranasinghe, Chief of National Intelligence Maj. Gen. Ruwan Kulathunga and Addl. Director General of the Multipurpose Development Task Force Maj. Gen. Mahinda Mudalige were also present among the distinguished invitees.
