Navy opens salt water barrier across Kelani River
May 15, 2020Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) opened the salt water fence erected across the Kelani River in Ambatale area, yesterday (14).
Salt water barrier was erected as a temporary measure to thwart the intrusion of salt water into the inland fresh water body, threatening the entire regional fresh water distribution during the dry season.
SLN divers removed the man-made barricade using sand bags opening the free-flow of water, before it may pose a flood threat to the surrounding low lying areas in the region.
