Sea going fishing communities to be vigilant - Met. Department

Issuing a marine weather forecast by 05.30 am today (29), the Meteorology Department requests naval and fishing communities operating in deep and shallow seas, from Galle to Batticaloa via southern seas, and Putlam to Kankasanthurei via Mannar to be vigilant, since rough seas and likely increase of wind speed (70 to 80 kmph) could be expected during next 24 hours.

Weather forecast also alerts on high swell waves (2m to 2.5m) at sea, from Mannar to Potuvil through the seas off southern coast extending from Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota.

Rainfalls and thundershowers may occur in several sea areas from Puttalam to Hambantota along the southern seas and strong and temporary gusty winds and very rough seas can also be expected during thundershowers.
