Preserving Archeological Sites
November 16, 2020Ministry of Defence is extending the supportive hands to maintain the standards of sacred places of historic value to protect and safeguard them for future.
The Prime Minister and the Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa laid the foundation stone for the inaugural ‘Deegawapiya Stupa’ restoration project auspiciously at the Deegawapiya premises on 11 Nov. Defence Secretary and Chairperson of ‘Archaeological Heritage Management Presidential Task Force’ (PTF) for Eastern Province, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne was also present at the ceremony.
On the same day, Prime Minister Rajapaksa visited ‘Muhudu Maha Viharaya’ and Defence Secretary pledged to preserve this historical places’ archaeological value for the future generation.
