Defence top brass joins Ministry staff to partake in New Year sweetmeat table

  • Defence Ministry commences work following the celebration of Sinhala and Tamil New Year

State Minister of Defence Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon along with the Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the President on National Security Mr. Sagala Rathnayake and the Defence Ministry Staffers gathered at the Ministry premises to partake in the New Year sweetmeat table at the invitation of Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne and Ministry’s Seva Vanitha Unit Chairperson Mrs. Chithrani Gunaratne, today morning ( April 17).

The event saw a large gathering of civil and military staffers working at the Ministry.

State Minister Tennakoon, Senior Presidential Advisor Mr. Rathnayake and the Defence Secretary Gen. Gunaratne took time to exchange pleasantries with the staff at the festive table.

Following the gathering, defence top brass extended their ‘Sinhala and Tamil New Year’ wishes to the Ministry staffers and afterwards commenced their work at the auspicious time.

A number of exclusive customs and traditional beliefs associated with New Year celebrations made it more special.

Today, April 17 (Monday) has been declared as the day for ‘Leaving for Work’ following the celebration of ‘Sinhala and Tamil New Year’.
