Stern action against rumour mongers

Authorities will take legal action against those who are involved in spreading false information, images or videos that would be detrimental to the reconciliation among the people. Authorities are on the lookout for those involved in spreading false information trying to whip up communal sentiments. Stern action will be taken against anyone found guilty of involving in such offences, said so the Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara at a press briefing held at the Media Centre in Kollupitiya last evening (02 May) to explain to the media about the current security situation.

Tri Forces and Police are continuing search operations around the country to arrest terror suspects and ensure public safety. The Tri Forces is empowered under the prevailing Emergency Regulations to search any location and make arrests.

The Press briefing was chaired by Military Spokesman and Director, Media Centre Brigadier Sumith Atapattu. Air Force Spokesman Group Captain Gihan Seneviratne was also present at the press briefing.
