Pakistan High Commissioner Pays Farewell Courtesy Calls on Deputy Minister of Defence and Defence Secretary
February 02, 2026The outgoing High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Major General (Retd) Faheem-Ul-Aziz, paid farewell calls on the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), and the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), today (02 February).
Arriving at the Deputy Minister’s office in Colombo, the Pakistani High Commissioner was accorded a warm welcome by the Deputy Minister.
Later in the day, the Pakistani envoy met the Defence Secretary at the Ministry of Defence for his farewell call on and a cordial discussion.
During both meetings, a range of matters were discussed, with particular focus on further strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Defence cooperation, training opportunities, and avenues for enhanced collaboration between the two countries were also discussed.
During the discussion, the Deputy Minister, on behalf of the President and the people of Sri Lanka, conveyed his sincere appreciation to the Government of Pakistan for the humanitarian assistance extended during the recent Ditwah disaster.
The Defence Secretary also expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s magnanimous support and solidarity with Sri Lanka during this difficult period.
The High Commissioner reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued commitment to strengthening friendly relations and cooperation with Sri Lanka, especially in the fields of defence and capacity-building initiatives.
The Defence Advisor of the Pakistan High Commission, Colonel Muhammad Farooq, was also present during these visits.
