Offering of treasures for ‘Sandahiru Seya’ Square Chamber underway

Ven. Angulgamuwe Ariyananda thero of the Na Uyana Aranya Senasana handed over an array of treasures to be deposited at the sacred Sandahiru Seya today (Mar 19).

Ven. Ariyananda thero accompanied by maha sanga presented the treasures to the Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) during a brief function held at the Ministry.

Buddhist scriptures, Buddha statues, a model foot print of the Lord Buddha, a number of model Pagodas embedded with various precious stones and several other exquisite artefacts were also among the treasures offered today.

Treasures were wished-for upcoming religious ceremony organized to deposit at the Sandahiru Stupa square chamber on 28 March in Anuradhapura.

Since the construction of hemispherical dome of the gigantic Stupa has been completed, the erection of square chamber would be inaugurated following the depositing of treasures.

The opportunity is also available for devotees to offer treasures, if any, for this noble cause from 20 to 27 March at the temple premises.

In a recent media brief held at the Defence Ministry Gen. Gunaratne stated that a special committee has been appointed to receive the treasures from the general public.

The Military Liaison Officer of the Defence Ministry Brig. Dinesh Nanayakkara and Ministry officials were also present at the event.
