SPECIAL STATEMENT BY THE STATE MINISTER OF DEFENCE
April 21, 2019Several bomb explosions were reported from a number of areas in the island between 0830 am and 0900 am, today.
The government expresses its condolence to the families of those who had lost their lives in these unfortunate incidents. Their funerals are to be conducted on state expense. I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured. All the injured have been admitted to hospitals and are receiving treatment.
Several foreigners are also reported to be among the injured. Foreigners staying in those hotels have been moved to other hotels.
Law enforcement authorities have commenced investigations into the incidents while security in the areas have been stepped up. People are requested to act with calm and restraint and not be misled by rumours or disinformation.
