Flood warning message 'Maha Oya basin'
June 05, 2021The Irrigation Department said a considerable rainfall exceeding 100 mm has been occurred in most of upstream catchment areas of Maha Oya basin as of 9.00 a.m today (June 5).
By analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water levels of Hydrological Stations in Maha Oya, the Irrigation Department said, there is a possibility of occurring a minor flood situation in low-lying areas of Maha Oya valley situated in Alawwa, Diwulapitiya, Meerigama, Pannala, Wennappuwa, Negambo, Katana and Dankotuwa Divisional Secretariat divisions.
It also warned, there is a possibility of inundating Giriulla - Kurunegala main road close to the Giriulla Police Station.
The Irrigation Department also requested residents to pay high attention in this regard and also vehicle drivers running in between the aforesaid areas.
