NDDCB marks ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' today

Issuing a message for a virtual programme conducted by the National Dangerous Drug Control Board on the ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’, His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said the national labour resource has to be further strengthened  through rehabilitating the drug addicted youths.

More attention should be paid towards the younger generation and children while appreciating them with extending love and affection to get rid of the issue, the President added.

Meanwhile, Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in his message said this government is dedicatedly working to create a country free of drugs under the guidance of the President as stated in the National Policy Framework, ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’.

Minister of Irrigation and State Minister of National Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management Hon. Chamal Rajapaksa in his message also mentioned "all the measures are being taken to curb the illegal drug menace in the country in accordance with the national policy framework ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’. "

Defence Secretary and Secretary to the State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) said drug use and trafficking has become one of the major issues faced by the human society in the world today and it has resulted in a global crisis for the human health, economically as well as socially.

The present government is working to regulate this issue through various avenues under the national program mooted to create a country free of drugs as stated in the National Policy Framework of His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’,  said Gen. Gunaratne in his message.

The government is envisioning to restrain the supply of narcotics through law enforcement, prevention, expansion of treatment and rehabilitation services and to setup a safer and healthier society by reducing the narcotics demand, it also said while praising the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board operating under the purview of the State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management for implementing evidence-based drug prevention, treatment and rehabilitation programs in accomplishing the aim.

He said, I am confident that all parties will work together to take all effective steps required to save lives by exchanging accurate information on drugs to build a “Drug Free Nation - A Prosperous Country”.

I commend the contribution of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board to achieve the National Vision by coordinating all national and international institutions for this purpose, the message added.
