Army continues with flood relief activities

With the inclement weather showing no signs of improvement most parts of the country is experiencing heavy rainfall.  A large number of people have been affected by floods, mudslides and landslides.

Rushing to the aid of the affected communities tri forces flood relief and rescue teams are actively engaged in providing assistance to disaster management authorities in many parts of the country.

Sri Lanka Army troops of the 6 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) of the 583 Brigade under the 58 Division had commenced placing sandbags on the banks of the Deduruoya river, near the 30th milepost which were damaged due to torrential rains, states Army media.

Troops of the 1 Sri Lanka National Guard of the 143 Brigade under the 14 Division had taken swift measures to rescue and provide relief to the flood victims, belonging to 50 families in the general areas of Godawela and Goadwelewatta in Polgahawela, it further states.

Meanwhile, troops of the 58 Division of the 1 Corps had laid sand bags to stop the road getting washed away along the Puttalam - Chillaw main road, close to the Palawiya, Ratmalyaya in Puttalam.

Troops of 613 Brigade under 61 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - West took quick measures for the renovation of the road patches that have been washed away along the Mapalana Ratalankawatta crematorium road near the 613 Brigade Headquarter premises, the Army media further states.
