Rs. 10 million worth Electric Tricycles presented to differently able War Heroes

A group of differently able War Heroes of Tri Forces was presented with 50 Electric Tricycles in view of the forthcoming 74th Independence Day celebrations.

Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne symbolically presented Electric Tricycles to 12 differently able War Heroes on the invitation of the Chairman of Ranaviru Seva Authority Maj. Gen. Nandana Senadeera, during a simple ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence in Defence Headquarters Complex, Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte today (Feb 3)

These Electric Tricycles worth of Rs. 10 million are provided to the beneficiaries by the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) as a part of its many welfare projects to uplift the living standards of the War Heroes and their families.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Defence Secretary said that the nation owes its gratitude to the War Heroes and that the government has taken a number of welfare measures for the benefit of the War Heroes including salary anomalies.

Taking time off his busy schedule the Defence Secretary took time to speak to each beneficiary, inquiring into their health and welfare. A veteran himself, the Defence Secretary shared wartime experiences with the War Heroes.

It is expected that these Electric Tricycles would enhance the mobility of these War Heroes who face difficulty in coping with their daily activities.

It will encourage and motivate these War Heroes to move ahead and even develop entrepreneurship thereby finding new avenues to lead a more productive and better life.

In line with President's Vistas of Prosperity policy statement, the Ranaviru Seva Authority had purchased these Electric Tricycles utilizing Rs. 750 million allocated by the Government for the welfare of War Heroes for the first time in history.

The RSA intends to distribute Electric Tricycles to selected differently able War Heroes from all districts at programmes to be held in Ratnapura, Kandy, Kurunegala and Anuradhapura with the participation of the Chairman of the Rannaviru Seva Authority during the Independence week.

Vice President of the RSA Mrs. Sonia Kottegoda, Military Liaison Officer of the MOD Maj. Gen. Dinesh Nanayakkara, senior military officers, Ranaviru Seva Authority officials and family members of the beneficiaries were also present at the occasion.
