“Kapruka Ranaviru Pranama 2022” - Coconut saplings to War Heroes

In parallel with the 74th Independence Day celebrations the inaugural ceremony to distribute 5000 coconut saplings among war heroes was held at the Ranaviru Village in Dompe, Keragala in the Gampaha District. The island wide programme is organized jointly by the Coconut Cultivation Board and the Ranaviru Seva Authority.

Chairman of the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) Maj. Gen. Nandana Senadheera (Retd) and Chairperson of the Coconut Cultivation Board (CCB) Dr. Madhavi Herath presided over the inaugural event.  A representation of differently able war heroes and family members of fallen war heroes were present at the ceremony.

After paying floral tributes to the Ranaviru Memorial at Keragala Ranaviru Village, as a symbolical gesture coconut saplings were planted in the premises of the Keragala Ranaviru Village community center.

The CCB Chairperson addressing the gathering explained the objectives of the project while the Chairman of the RSA enlightened those present of the contributions of the war heroes and its benefits to them. He further expressed his gratitude on behalf of the war hero community to the CCB for selecting the Ranaviru Seva Authority for this project.

It was also agreed to promote the project at forum level and to provide war heroes with necessary technical training and support to encourage entrepreneurship.

A lecture was also held with the participation Coconut Cultivation Board officers on basic knowledge required for coconut cultivation to the war heroes present during the programme.

Senior RSA and CCB officials were also present at the occasion.
