ANNUAL ‘CISM DAY’ RUN - 2022

The International Military Sport Council (CISM) Day Run which was organized this time by the Sri Lanka Air Force was flagged off this morning (20 February 2022) at the Riffle Green Ground, Colombo by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd). The Commander of the Air Force and President of Defence Services Sports Board, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana participated for the run along with the Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Prasanna Payoe and members of the Air Force Board of Management. The Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva, Commander of Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne also participated for the event. Over a hundred personnel from each service participated for ‘CISM Day Run’ which covered a distance of nearly 4 km.

The International Military Sport Council (CISM) was founded on the 18th of February 1948 and organizes various sporting events for the armed forces worldwide. CISM brings together military personnel from all its 133 member country nations who may previously have met on the battle field while enabling them to strengthen their friendship on the playing field.

This is in accordance with the philosophy and the ideals set in CISM’s mission statement signed by all the member countries. The ultimate goal of CISM is to contribute to world peace by uniting armed forces through sports achieving its motto, “Friendship through Sport”.
