SLCG gains more skills

Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) conducted a collaborative programme to provide training on Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) handling with the assistance of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) - Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) recently.

This training included theoretical and practical knowledge on RHIB manoeuvring, RHIB related skills and maintenance.

Mentioning the duration of the course from February 28 this year to 11 March, the SLCG said this type of training is vital for their personnel to perform Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations at sea.

The Chief Instructor of UNODC, Stuart Melville, Corporal Joshua Resteiner and Secondment Officer of UNODC from Seychelles conducted the initial training module for five SLCG personnel including one officer and four sailors at the Sober Island Resort in Trincomalee.

Certificate awarding ceremony was held at the Sober Island Resort, Trincomalee and the next module will be commenced from March 14 to 25 at Trincomalee for another group of SLCG personnel, the news added.
