Highest number of curfew violations reported today

· Police to take tough legal action against curfew violators soon

The highest number of curfew violations – 1,800 arrests- reported, so far, has been reported during the last 24-hours that ended at 6.00 am today (08).

According to Police, over 18,000 persons and nearly 5,000 vehicles have been taken into custody since March 20.

The highest numbers of curfew violations have been reported from Gampaha, Anuradhapura, Chilaw and Polonnaruwa districts.

Police said stern legal actions would be taken against curfew violators in those areas soon.

Meanwhile, the Police commended the support extended by majority of people that remained indoors to support to maintain law and order during curfew, which has been extended to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Police said it would also take strict actions against persons who were attempting to obtain curfew passes submitting fake documents.
