‘Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2023’ enters second day

The annual ‘Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2023’ cycle race commenced on Wednesday morning (Mar 03) after being flagged off by the Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana opposite the Air Force Headquarters in Colombo.

The 24th edition of the race is being held to coincide with the 72nd anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force.

According to Air Force sources, more than 150 local and foreign cyclists including a five-member team representing the Indian Air Force are competing in the men’s race. The third and final lap of the men’s race is scheduled to end at Anuradhapura on Saturday (Mar 4) it says.

Meanwhile the women’s race is scheduled to commence in Habarana on Saturday (Mar 4) and conclude in Anuradhapura on the same day, covering a distance of approximately 88km. The final awards ceremony will be held on Saturday at the Air Force Base Anuradhapura it says.

The race is being aired live on Channel Eye of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, it says.
