Tri Forces troops assist in relief operations

Torrential rains being experienced over most parts of the country has affected the routine life of the masses. With the inclement weather showing no signs of improvement an increase in incidents of localized flooding and earth slips are being reported from around the island.

Tri forces troops rescue and relief teams are kept on standby to provide assistance to disaster management authorities during emergency situations.

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops were mobilized to clear an earth slip that had blocked the Haputale - Colombo road near Beragala, Bathalegoda area on Monday (Nov. 06). According to SL Army media, a team of Army riders had alerted the locals in the area before the incident occurred in the early hours. Later the road was cleared by the troops along with Road Development Authority personnel allowing vehicular movement along this important road that connects the hill country with the capital.

Troops were also seen clearing another road in Boralanda in the same region on the same day after a minor earth slip had blocked vehicular movement.  

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) troops in Puttalam provided 1200 packets of cooked food to flood affected residents in Buddhi Gaminipura village, Nagavilluwa area, says SLAF media sources.    

In an earlier incident, a team of a team of divers and members of the Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) of the Sri Lanka Navy cleared blockages under the Dodamgoda and Wakwella Bridges over Gin River in Galle after flood debris had clogged hindering the smooth flow of water. Navy troops were assisted by the Irrigation Department and Disaster Management Centre, navy media sources say.
