Youths in East Begin Tamil & Sinhala Language Learning thru SFHQ-East & CCC

Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, the Commander, Security Forces - East (SF-East) as the Chief Guest attended the ‘Sinhala Language’ diploma awarding ceremony for Tamil speaking youths, held on Saturday (18) at Oddamawadi National School in Batticaloa at the invitation of the Chairman, Civil Citizens' Committee (CCC), Batticaloa.

The CCC has launched this productive free Sinhala language teaching project for the benefit of Tamil speaking youth in the area in order to help promote better understanding, reconciliation, goodwill, co-existence and harmony between Sinhala and Tamil speaking communities.

A total of 290 Tamil speaking youth who enthusiastically followed the diploma course received certificates of proficiency from the day’s Chief Guest, Commander, SF - East during the well-attended ceremony.

Similarly, the Security Force HQ - East will shortly introduce Tamil language courses for Sinhala students in Sinhapura Maha Vidyalaya and Nelumwewa Maha Vidyalaya with the objective of imparting Tamil language knowledge to the youngsters interested in learning Tamil.

Addressing the gathering, Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG emphasized the importance of leaning each other’s language for betterment of society and understanding as it could pave the way for them to achieve true reconciliation among all communities in the country. He also said that the Security Forces - East will start its pilot Tamil teaching project within a week. The Commander, Security Force – East also paid his gratitude to all members of the Civil Citizens’ Committee, Batticaloa for their timely initiative to address this social issue.

Major General K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division, Staff Officers of Security Force HQ - East, Senior Officers and Officers representing various Headquarters under 23 Infantry Division were present at the event.

In addition, Moulavi M.M.S Haroon Sahvi, Managing Director of Al-Qimmah Association - Kalkudha, Mr. A.C.M Niyasdeen, Managing Director of Aqeel International Helping Unit - Oddamavadi, Mr. M.A Haleem Ishaq, Principal, National School - Oddamavadi, Mr. AL Abul Hasan, Principal of Fathima Balika Maha Vidyalaya - Oddamavadi and several other invitees attended the certificate awarding ceremony.
