Inclement weather likely to continue

Showers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern and Uva provinces. Several spells of showers may occur in the Hambantota district too. The latest weather advisory issued by the Met. Department today (Dec. 18) further says that showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other areas of the island after 1.00 p.m.

Fairly heavy showers of above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Morning misty conditions can prevail at places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces.

A maximum rainfall of 100mm was recorded from Hiniduma in the Galle district during the last 24 hours.

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued a Level 2 Landslide warning to areas in the Badulla, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Matara and Ratnapura districts while places in the Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Kurunegala, Hambantota and Galle districts have been issued with a Level 1 landslide warning.

Meanwhile, Army and Navy relief teams have provided assistance to communities affected by floods in several areas in the Anuradhapura and Mannar districts.
