KDU Marks World Environment Day 2025 with a National Call to Action

In line with World Environment Day 2025, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) organized a commemorative event under the theme “Our Planet, Our Responsibility” at the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) Auditorium June 5. The event highlighted the urgent need for environmental protection and sustainable practices.

The ceremony commenced at 9:00 AM and brought together policymakers, academics, environmental advocates, and members of the defence and university communities in a collective call for environmental action.

The Chief Guest, Hon. Eng. Kumara Jayakody, Minister of Power and Energy, emphasized the government's commitment to clean energy and environmental sustainability. Guests of Honour included Mr. Dulip Somirathna, Senior Assistant Secretary to the President and Director (Ethics) at the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, who spoke on national-level ethical responsibility in environmental governance.

The event was further attended by Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara, the Vice Chancellor of the General Sir John Kotelawela Defence University, senior lecturers, faculty members, and senior military officers, reflecting KDU's integrated approach to environmental awareness across academic and defence spheres.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability, encouraging the next generation of leaders to champion environmental responsibility as part of their academic and professional lives.
