Acting Minister of Defence Graces the Second Day of Inaugural
Sri Jayawardenapura Poson Udanaya 2025

The inaugural "Sri Jayawardenapura Poson Udanaya 2025" commenced on June 10, marking a significant religious and cultural celebration in the heart of Sri Jayawardenapura. This first-time event is jointly organized by the Madiwela Sri Sambuddhaloka Viharaya, Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and several other government institutions. The Poson zone extends from Kibulawela Junction to Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital Mawatha, centred on the “Kamatha” premises.

Acting Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), attended the event as the Chief Guest this evening (11 June), symbolizing the Ministry of Defence’s support for national religious celebrations. This occasion not only reflects the commitment to preserving Sri Lanka’s cultural and spiritual heritage but also underscores the vital role of unity and shared values in strengthening the society.

The Poson Udanaya celebrations featured a series of spiritual observances, vibrant Poson lantern displays and cultural exhibitions, all embodying the timeless Buddhist values of peace, harmony and communal unity. The event was graciously coordinated by Ven. Waligalle Pagnaloka Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the temple and the dignitaries, including Maharagama Mayor Saman Samarakoon, Western Province Governor's Secretary Ishan Wijetilake, Western Province Provincial Council Secretary Harsha Wijewardena, a group of senior tri-forces and police officers and a large group of devotees also participated in this event.
    
The programme will continue until June 14, inviting the public to experience its serene and devotional atmosphere.
