Vietnamese Ambassador Calls on Defence Secretary

Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Sri Lanka, Her Excellency Mrs. Trinh Thi Tam, paid a courtesy call on the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), today (June 18) at the Ministry of Defence.

During the cordial meeting, the Defence Secretary and the Vietnamese envoy engaged in a productive discussion on key aspects of the longstanding bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Vietnam. They reflected on the warm diplomatic ties that have endured over the years, underscoring mutual respect and cooperation between the two nations.

Particular emphasis was placed on the shared cultural and religious heritage, with both dignitaries acknowledging the deep-rooted connections between Sri Lanka and Vietnam through Buddhism. The two sides expressed appreciation for the spiritual and cultural bonds that continue to foster mutual understanding between two nations.

The meeting also touched on avenues for further collaboration in areas of mutual interest, reaffirming the commitment of both countries to enhancing diplomatic engagement and strengthening partnerships across diverse sectors.

The Defence Secretary conveyed his appreciation to the Ambassador for her visit and reiterated Sri Lanka’s readiness to continue fostering friendly relations with Vietnam for the benefit of both nations.
