September 15, 2025

Under the patronage of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, the Sri Lanka Navy held a solemn ceremony on 13 Sep 25 to honour the valour and sacrifice of 4th Fast Attack Flotilla (4FAF) naval personnel. The event was held at the 4FAF War Monument at its Headquarters in Trincomalee.

The 4FAF played a pivotal role in the successful humanitarian operation, which eradicated three decades of terrorism and secured the nation's territorial integrity. The ceremony served as a reminder that the courage and sacrifices of 4FAF personnel will forever be etched in the nation's memory.

The tribute brought together a distinguished gathering, including veterans of the 4FAF, who were wounded in action and retired, to honour their fallen comrades. In a moving gesture, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Banagoda led the ceremony by laying a wreath at the memorial and the gesture was reciprocated by a group of 4FAF veterans who attended the event.

Following the memorial event, a special discussion programme was held at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium where 4FAF veterans shared their invaluable combat experiences with a new generation of officers and sailors. This dialogue provided crucial insights into the high levels of mental and physical fitness, teamwork, decisive leadership, and unwavering patriotism required to achieve victory in complex operational scenarios.

The ceremony was attended by the Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera, the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Rohan Joseph, Former Commanding Officers of 4FAF and Present Commanding Officer of 4th Fast Attack Flotilla, Captain Chandana Priyantha, alongside a host of senior and junior officers and sailors.
