76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China
September 26, 2025The 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China was celebrated yesterday (25 September) at the City of Dreams Colombo, with the participation of a distinguished gathering of dignitaries.
Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Hon. (Dr.) Anil Jayantha, M.P., graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) were also present at the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador of China to Sri Lanka, H.E. Qi Zhenhong, highlighted the deep-rooted friendship and longstanding bilateral relations between the two nations.
The celebration featured a series of cultural performances showcasing the richness of Chinese heritage. The event was attended by former Presidents and Prime Ministers of Sri Lanka, the Leader of the Opposition, Cabinet Ministers, senior officials of the Ministry of Defence, former ministers and members of the diplomatic corps.
