US Defence Attaché Meets Secretary of Defence to
Discuss Ongoing Disaster Relief Efforts

The US Defence Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Matthew House paid an official visit to the Secretary of Defence at the Ministry of Defence today (Tuesday, 02 December 2025), focusing on the ongoing disaster relief operations being conducted across affected regions of the country.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in detailed discussions on the current humanitarian situation and the coordination mechanisms required to ensure swift and effective support to the communities impacted by the recent disaster. The Secretary of Defence briefed the visiting official on the national response efforts, including military-led rescue, relief, and recovery initiatives.

The US Defence Attaché reaffirmed the United States' commitment to supporting Sri Lanka during this critical time and announced that US will be providing essential relief items to assist affected families. The support is aimed at strengthening ongoing humanitarian operations and easing the hardships faced by thousands of disaster-stricken residents.

The Ministry of Defence expressed its appreciation for the timely assistance and reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations, especially during times of emergency. The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe and Officials of United States Embassy in Sri Lanka were present during this meeting.
