Navy launches 'Sinduliya' to coincide with International Women's Day
March 08, 2021- Navy celebrates International Women's Day under the theme of 'Choose to Challenge'.
The Sri Lanka Navy’s Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU) launched ‘Sinduliya’ magazine under the aegis of Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit (MODSVU) Chairperson Chithrani Gunaratne at the Navy Headquarters Auditorium today (Mar 8).
The Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne accompanied by NSVU President Chandima Ulugetenne warmly received the Chief Guest Mrs. Gunaratne on arrival at the venue.
The programme had been organized to coincide with the International Women's Day which is widely celebrated on Mar 8.
A moment of silence was observed in memory of fallen War Heroes at the outset of the Women’s Day programme.
Following the welcome speech by NSVU President, the renowned Psychotherapist Ama Dissanayake delivered an inspiring speech, grabbing the attention of the audience during the session.
An array of events taking place to signify the day was seen at the venue under the directives of Mrs Ulugetenne.
Culinary workshop by veteran Chef Deshabandu Pabilis Silva followed by beauty culture and handcraft programmes were conducted amidst the day’s programme.
Sri Jayewardenepura University’s Senior Lecturer Prof. Praneeth Abyesundara and Chairperson, Academy of Beauty Culture Swinitha Kotelawala also delivered lectures.
The International Women's Day planned to denote the noteworthy role played by the women within the family, society, country and the world as a whole, being a vital part of humankind also applauded the silent service rendered by female veterans in active service including the naval wives, being a source of strength and encouragement to the naval family.
The dancing performances presented by the Navy Band dancers graced the entire occasion.
The NSVU President Mrs Ulugetenne presented a memento to the Chief Guest Mrs Gunaratne to mark the occasion.
Senior Navy Officers, Lady Offices, Women Sailors, NSVU members, veteran artist Rasadari Peiris, award winning craftswoman Swarna Jayanthi and distinguished invitees were present at the event.
