SLN foils illegal migration attempt
March 12, 2021The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) apprehended 24 persons and foiled an illegal migration attempt during a special operation conducted in Kurakkanhena, Kalpitiya, yesterday (Mar 11).
The Northwestern Naval Command after spotting a suspicious lorry parked near the Kalpitiya lagoon in the Kurakkanhena area nabbed the suspects and the lorry driver, the SLN said.
The suspects had been waiting for a boat to migrate illegally from Sri Lanka to a foreign country by sea, the SLN also said.
The nabbed were residents of Batticaloa, Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee and Puttalam and they included two girls, one boy and another female.
The suspects and the lorry were handed over to the Kalpitiya Police for onward legal action.
