Artificial limbs for former combatants in CSD

In another humanitarian gesture of the Sri Lanka Army, initiatives commenced at Anuradhapura ‘Abimansala-1’ to provide 64 former LTTE combatants now serving the Civil Security Department (CSD) new artificial legs and limbs, free of charge.

Physically-handicapped personnel still on CSD service in North and East of the country were invited to the ‘Abimansala-1’ in this regard and accordingly, those former combatants will receive Rs. 4 million worth new artificial legs and limbs, free of charge in this month.

The project to make artificial legs and limbs for physically-handicapped War Heroes commenced at a prosthetics and orthotics workshop, Anuradhapura recently on a directive of the Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva.

Most of those former combatants who lost their legs and limbs due to LTTE landmines, explosive devices and booby traps were rehabilitated and brought to mainstream society during the period of 2010 – 2012.

They were provided with employment in the CSD in North and East of the country despite their physical disabilities.

Similarly, physically-handicapped civilians, including those who sustained injuries during the war are requested to receive technical repair services of those two prosthetics and orthotics workshops, free of charge.
