SLN fixes submerged barge for commuters in Punkudutivu
May 28, 2021The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) refloated a defunct barge at the Kurikattuwan pier in Punkudutive Island yesterday (May 27).
The Road Development Authority operated barge which was one of the essential modes of goods and commuter transportation from Kurikattuwan pier to the Nainativu was not in service following being submerged partly. the SLN said.
According to the SLN, the recent adverse weather and rough seas had caused damages to the barge and submerged partly while halting its shuttling.
This effort was highly praised by the regional state authorities and the commuters, it said.
