Sandahiru Stupa ‘Crest-Gem’ and ‘Sacred Pinnacle’ exposition inaugurates at Gangaramaya Temple

The exposition of the ‘Crest-Gem’ and the ‘Sacred Pinnacle’ of Sandahiru Stupa for public veneration was inaugurated at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo amidst religious blessings of Maha Sanga, today (Aug 5).

The motorcade carrying two revered articles arrived at the Gangaramaya Temple in a religious procession at the auspicious time amidst the blessings.

Conduction of religious observances was presided by Ven. Dr. Kirinde Assaji thero, the Chief Incumbent of Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple during the session.

Accordingly, the ‘Crest-Gem’ and the ‘Sacred Pinnacle’ will be in exhibition at the Gangaramaya Temple until Aug 8 (Sunday) for public veneration.

Afterwards, they will be paraded in a religious procession and will arrive at 48 temples in 18 districts travelling over 47 days around the island.

The driving force behind the expeditious progress of the noble project, Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) also paid homage to the revered two articles during the occasion.

A renowned businessman, a devotee and a patron of the sacred construction, Arthur Senanayake, who offered the Sacred Crest Gem which is designed to be placed at the tip of the Conical Spire of the Stupa, was also present at the event.

Ven. Maha Sanga, Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Gunawardana, Public Security Ministry Secretary Maj. Gen. Jagath Alwis (Retd), Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Director General of the Civil Security Department Maj. Gen. Ranjan Lamahewage (Retd), Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs Sunanda Kariyapperuma and Defence Ministry Officials were also present.
