Navy assists to upgrade facilities at rural schools

A rural school in the Kalutara district was the beneficiary of the Naval Social Responsibility project (NSR) of  Sri Lanka Navy. Kelinkanda Janapadaya Primary School in Agalawatta, Kalutara was renovated under the Navy’s NSR project which coincided with its 70th anniversary celebrations, reports Navy media.

A host of facility upgrading was carried out at the school including renovation of classroom buildings, plumbing & electrical work, safety fences, sanitary facilities, playground development and other facilities.

The project which got off the ground in mid-April this year was completed and was officially handed over to the school authorities during a ceremony attended by the Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne on Thursday (Oct 07), it further states.
 
Naval expertise was utilized to renovate all dilapidated classroom and administrative buildings, playground plumbing and electrical work and also landscaping.
 
In addition a new building for administrative purposes has been constructed while a security camera system has also been installed in the school. The school’s multi-purpose building has also been furnished with computers, computer tables and a public address system, the SLN media further states.
 
Such school facilities developed by the Navy under its NSR project in the Eastern, Northern and Northwestern Naval Commands have already been vested for the use of children with a view to assist to uplift the educational standards of rural societies.
