Army troops join Coastal Cleanup Drive

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) conducted a beach cleanup drive in the beach patch along Kattankudy to Batticaloa, recently, coinciding with the International Coastal Cleanup Day and Marine Resources Conservation Week.

Troops of the 11 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) under the Security Force Headquarters-East joined the programme, the SLA sources said.

In the meantime, troops of the 6 Sri Lanka Artillery, 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 2 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps under the Security Force Headquarters -West cleaned the coastal belt from Negombo to Poruthota covering a distance of about 3 km, the Army media reported.

State officials and civilians of the respective areas too joined the troops in the project.
