The Ministry of Defence extends its profound appreciation to the local community of Maduruoya, the medical professionals and personnel of the Aralaganwila Divisional Hospital and Polonnaruwa Base Hospital, and the dedicated members of the fire and ambulance services for their invaluable assistance following the Bell 212 helicopter accident on 9 May 2025 at the Special Forces Camp during a passing-out parade display performance rehearsals.

The swift and coordinated efforts of all involved played a crucial role in ensuring the immediate rescue and medical care for the victims of this unfortunate incident. The Ministry especially acknowledges the unwavering support of the civilians in Maduruoya, whose prompt response and selfless actions exemplify the deep-rooted spirit of solidarity between the armed forces and the local community. This extraordinary demonstration of cooperation underscores the vital relationship between military personnel and the civil community, reinforcing the shared commitment to safeguarding lives and upholding national security.

The Ministry commends the exceptional dedication and professionalism of the medical staff at Polonnaruwa Hospital, whose expertise in emergency response ensured that the injured received prompt critical care. Equally commendable are the efforts of the emergency fire and ambulance services, whose swift intervention and well-coordinated execution of rescue operations were instrumental in managing the emergency effectively.
