Acting Minister of Defence Visits SERRIC
June 12, 2025Acting Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), paid a visit to the Senehasa Education, Resource, Research and Information Centre (SERRIC) today (June 12), where he was warmly received by the Commandant and staff.
The SERRIC is a childcare institution that is established under the Ministry of Defence and Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) with the prime purpose of caring for and supporting the needs, dreams and aspirations of children with special needs. This institute provides daytime special care for children of service and civil employees of tri-services, the Sri Lanka Police Department and the Civil Security Department.
The visit commenced with a comprehensive briefing by the Commandant SERRIC Brigadier Upendra Karunarathna, followed by an inspection of classrooms. This provided the Acting Minister with an opportunity to observe the Centre’s educational atmosphere and the implementation of inclusive learning methods.
A highlight of the programme was a documentary screening and a series of heartfelt performances by the children, showcasing the Centre’s dedication to child development and special education. To commemorate the occasion, the children presented a memento as a token of gratitude and respect.
Further, the Acting Minister assured the fullest support of the government for the ongoing concerns and future development of the center. The visit concluded with the signing of the Visitors' Book and a group photograph.
The event saw the participation of the students, alongside the Additional Secretary- Defence Services, Mr Saman Dissanayake, RSA Chairman and SERRIC staff, underscoring the relevant authority’s ongoing commitment to providing education and care for children with special needs.
