NCC Hosts Acting Minister of Defence
June 13, 2025The Acting Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), paid an official visit to the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Headquarters in Pamankada today (June 13). The visit marked a significant engagement with one of Sri Lanka’s foremost youth development institutions under the Ministry of Defence.
The NCC is a premier youth development organisation in Sri Lanka. Established with the aim of instilling discipline, leadership and a spirit of national service among school-going youth, the NCC plays a pivotal role in shaping responsible and resilient future citizens.
Upon arrival, the Acting Minister was welcomed with a formal drive-past before proceeding to a group photograph with senior officials and school cadets. Acting Minister also engaged in a cordial discussion with the cadets who were present at the event. The programme continued with a comprehensive briefing on the NCC, delivered by the Director of the Corps, Brigadier Rajitha Premathilaka. The session provided an overview of the NCC’s mission, operations, training initiatives and its pivotal role in fostering leadership and discipline among Sri Lankan youth.
Following the briefing, the Acting Minister engaged in informal discussions with NCC leadership at the Director’s Office. He assured the fullest support of the government for the ongoing concerns and future development of the NCC. Before concluding the visit, he signed the Visitor’s Book, noting his appreciation for the Corps’ continued service to the nation.
